interior cities: insta gratification

An exploration of new world/old world continues but with this series I’m peeking into the interior of the city. It’s an imaginative look, fuelled in large part by Instagram. I’m taking a glimpse at what lies behind the facades and glass towers of the city, inspired by fabulous Instagram posts. Who isn’t a complete voyeur today!

These imaginings begin as collage study from which a laser image, either colour or black and white, is printed. This print is then transferred, by hand, to polyester film using acrylic mediums. The artwork inevitably changes at every stage. I try to not control the process. So it is not until the transfer has been made to polyester film that I am sure the composition will work.

Once the image is in place, I texture the surface with layers of medium and apply a final uv protective varnish. Along the way I may add text, pigment or further transfers.

These pieces can be framed in a traditional manner under glass but I love to simply float them on magnetic buttons.
