Eleanor’s work is a commentary on the contemporary urban scene. It’s a look at the street, people and the places they frequent. Architecture, publicity, text and graffiti are the elements she builds into her mixed media pieces. Photography best captures the essence of the city and forms the structural base of the work onto which more traditional mediums are layered. Through the camera lens, Eleanor is struck by how cities differ one from the other in spite of cultural similarities that tie them together. What remains the same, however, is that the crush of urban life provides not only shelter, but spectacle and delicious anonymity.
A formation in Fine Art at Concordia University, Montréal, where she studied under Irene Whittome, Yves Gaucher and Guido Molinari, ten years in advertising and a passion for travel have all left their mark.
In her most recent body of work, Eleanor has taken the technique of image transfer to translucent polyester film, a dimensionally stable and archival medium. The resulting works are soft and slightly flawed, very much in keeping with her imperfect, gritty subject matter.
The artwork presented here is a chronological representation of the direction she has taken over the past 25 years.
Eleanor’s work appears in private collections in Chicago, Hamburg, Nice, Montréal, Toronto and Ottawa.
Her work has also been featured in major Canadian lifestyle magazines including the cover of Canadian House and Home magazine. She has been consistently represented and has shown independently throughout a long and productive career.
